“On what is supposed to be a special day, Christmas
Day, my Mom and step-father went out and happened upon a collie dog and a puppy
wandering the road. They stopped as
they always do, and managed to get the puppy into the truck, but the momma dog
(collie) would not get in, she would get close to the truck but wouldn't get
in, and it was obvious that she was upset that her puppy was in the truck. So finally they put the puppy back with its
Mom, finished their errand and decided they would go back and offer them some
food and water and try to get them again.
When they got back to them, some very very cruel person had blown the
puppies brains out at close range; both shells were lying beside the dead
puppy. This upset my Mom so badly, because she had had the puppy in the
truck. She was devastated over
this. Any way to finish this story she
finally managed to get the momma dog (collie) in the truck and took her back to
her house.”
Rose, the Mom in this story, turned the momma dog
over to Tallahassee Collie Rescue.
“Ellie Rose” came into our program very thin, malnourished, and troubled
by what appeared to be an old injury.
One side of her face was paralyzed, possibly from a blow to her head or
neck. Her lips on the right side were
dry and cracked because they hung slack.
After trying to help her heal with good food, love, and frequent
moisturizing of her lips, we decided to ask our veterinarians if they could
help her out with a little corrective surgery.
Dr. Simmons (of North Florida Animal Hospital in Tallahassee) worked his
magic, tucking Ellie Rose’s lip inward, allowing it to be protected from the
air when she closed her mouth. The
results were wonderful – she is now free from what would have been a life-long
problem.
Ellie Rose, now bearing the much more dignified name of
“Sable”, has found her home with a loving family in Bradenton, Florida, where
she will live out her years in peace and happiness, her past troubles
forgotten.
